Schlumberger Lieux-Dits: when every plot tells its own story

At Domaines Schlumberger, terroir is not just a concept — it is a daily commitment, carried forward through more than two centuries of family winemaking on the hillsides of Guebwiller. While our four Grands Crus — Kitterlé, Kessler, Saering and Spiegel — are the estate’s most celebrated names, there is a quieter range that deserves your full attention: the Lieux-Dits.

What is a lieu-dit in Alsatian winemaking?

A lieu-dit refers to a historically recognised vineyard plot, often named after a geographical feature, a soil type or an ancient local usage. In Alsace, these named terroirs form the bedrock of the region’s winemaking identity. Unlike Grands Crus, lieux-dits do not carry an official classification, but they hold deep recognition among wine connoisseurs. At Domaines Schlumberger, we have chosen to vinify four of these parcels separately, allowing each soil to fully express itself in the glass.

Riesling Flieg : pure mineral expression

The Flieg lieu-dit produces a Riesling of remarkable tension. Pale yellow with green highlights, a precise and fresh nose, a taut palate driven by fine acidity — this is a wine that faithfully translates the vibrancy of its terroir. It pairs beautifully with seafood, grilled fish or any dish with an iodine touch. Several vintages are available, from 2015 to 2021, each one reflecting the consistency of this exceptional plot.

Pinot Noir Stein: the Alsatian red that surprises

Stein is the only red lieu-dit in our range, and it is a deliberate choice. This terroir gives the Pinot Noir a depth and structure that one does not always expect from Alsace. A cherry-red robe with violet hints announces a full-bodied yet elegant wine with silky tannins. The 2022 vintage is certified organic, reflecting our ongoing commitment to ever more sustainable practices. It pairs wonderfully with red meat, game or mushroom-based dishes.

Pinot Gris Schimberg: generous yet poised

The Schimberg terroir lends the Pinot Gris a generous aromatic richness while preserving a beautiful composure on the palate. This is a gastronomic wine par excellence, equally at home alongside a sauce-dressed poultry dish or a mature Alsatian cheese. Its complexity makes it the ideal choice for enthusiasts seeking a white wine with character but without heaviness.

Gewurztraminer Belzbrunnen: floral, spicy, unforgettable

Belzbrunnen is the most aromatic lieu-dit in our collection. Here, the Gewurztraminer develops an intense floral bouquet — rose, lychee, gentle spices — with a generous, mouth-filling palate. This is an emotional wine that captivates from the very first nose, pairing as easily with spicy Asian cuisine as with foie gras or an exotic fruit dessert.

Single-parcel winemaking, true to the terroir

What sets our Lieux-Dits apart is above all our winemaking approach. Each parcel is harvested and vinified separately, with no blending, so that the wine reflects exclusively the character of its soil and exposure. This philosophy has driven Domaines Schlumberger since 1810 — 100% estate-grown winemakers who purchase no grapes and control every step from vine to glass.

Come and discover them at the estate

Our Lieux-Dits are available for tasting in our welcoming space in Guebwiller, open Tuesday to Saturday. You can also experience them during our guided tours — the discovery visit or the 4×4 adventure tour through the vineyards — where you will understand first-hand what makes each lieu-dit unique.
