History

Probably the most renowned wine in Alsace, Traminer comes from the North of Italy and dates back to the 16th century. Gewurztraminer (literally spiced or musky Traminer) is a selection of the most aromatic Traminers, and becomes Gewurztraminer 1950.

Location

Gewurztraminer Princes Abbés comes mainly from our named localities of BOLLENBERG and BUX as well as from the young vines from our Grand Cru vineyards.

Wine-making

Slow pneumatic pressing, static raching. Fermentation in thermo controlled tuns for 1 to 4 months. Aging on lees for approximately 6 to 8 months.

 

Gastronomy

To be served within 3-4 years at a temperature of 12°C. Very pleasant with a scampi salad with mango or with washed-rind cheese.

Tasting

The robe is a golden yellow with light green reflections of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid, transparent. The wine shows youth. The nose is frank, pleasant with a good intensity. The dominant of fragrances is candied, based on fruity notes, crystallized peach, spices, ginger and a slight floral character. Airing enhances the overmaturity and expresses generosity. The nose procures much pleasure. The balance of the maturity of the grapes in controlled.
The onset in the mouth is moderately ample, one feels some mellowness. The alcoholic base is full-bodied. One evolves on a fresh and sharp, finely sparkling medium. The range of aromas reminds candied fruits, crystallized fruits, flowers, citrus fruits and ginger. Some bitterness is perceptible.
The final presents an average length 4-5 caudalies, and a frank vivacity. The structure of the wine remains light in spite of this hint of sweetness.
