History

The Traminer is probably the most famous Alsace wine. It comes from the North of Italy and dates from the XVI century. The Gewurztraminer (literally means spicy or musky Traminer) is a selection of the most aromatic Traminer wines and became Gewurztraminer around the year 1950.

Location

Our Gewurztraminer comes mainly from our named localities of Bollenberg and Bux as well as from the young vines from our Grand Cru vineyards.

Wine-making

Slow, pneumatic pressing was followed by static racking. Fermentation in thermo-regulated tuns for one to four months. Maturation on lees from six to eight months.

Gastronomy

It can be associated with an exotic cuisine, such as a cod soup with coconut milk, Thaï king prawns, a poultry tajine with candied lemons and olives or a soft and washed-rind cheese, such as the Vieux Lille. Serve at 12°C.

Tasting

The robe is light lemon yellow with green reflections, of good intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows a brillant youth.

The nose is marked, pleasant and intense. Dominated by exoticism, we perceive lemon zest, grapefruit, pineapple, banana and honey. The airing enhances these scents and reveals mango, papaya, flowers, perony, spices and candied ginger. Excellent fragrance profile. Sophisticated yet complex, the quality of the fruit amazes the nose.

The onset in the mouth is dense and rich, the alcohol support is full-bodied. The wine evolves on a tight and precise medium, marked by a sparkling note. We find the same bright aromas s on the nose, very exotic, composed of grapefruit, lemon zest, banana, pineapple, honey, papaya, mango, peony and candied ginger. We perceive a hint of tasty bitterness. The finish has a good length, 8-9 caudalies, as well as a marked bitterness and a fine liveliness. The balance of this wine is tasty, it doesn’t saturate the palate. Richness and freshness are present, enhanced by a splendid aromatic palette.
