History

Muscat is a very ancient grape variety, first mentioned in 1510. Of eastern origin and very different to the sweet Muscat, it is the result of a blend of two grape varieties, Muscat d’Alsace grapes and Muscat Ottonel. (Blended in equal proportions at Domaines Schlumberger).

Location

Muscat is a delicate, very sensitive grape variety. This wine mainly comes from the Bollenberg and Bux plots. Being very difficult, our Muscat is unfortunately not available every year.

Wine-making

A blend, in equal proportions, of two varieties of Muscat d’Alsace and Muscat Ottonel. The grapes are pressed pneumatically followed by static settling of the must. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tuns from 1 to 4 months. The wine is raised on the less for 4 months and bottled within the year.

Gastronomy

This wine can be enjoyed on its own, as an aperitif. With the meal, it will work wonders on a “Coeur de boeuf” tomato salad with mozzarella di bufala campana and pesto, fried prawns with ginger or goat cheese from the Embetschés goat farm. To be served at a temperature of 12°C.

Tasting

The robe is pale yellow with light green highlights of low intensity. The disk is bright, limpid and transparent. The wine shows a pleasant youth.

The nose is frank, pleasant and racy. One perceives a dominant of floral scents, fine vegetal, peppermint, nettles, in addition to chlorophyll and aromatic herbs. Airing enhances the previous aromas and brings forth fruit, citrus fruit, lemon, pear and a fine touch of spice, ginger.

The nose is frank and complex. Distinctive, it displays perfectly the excellent health of the grapes.

The onset in the mouth is moderately ample, with a balanced alcohol support. The wine evolves on a medium with strict liveliness, marked by a sparkling note. The range of aromas is reminiscent of the nose, dominated by the delicate vegetal. We find again nettle, peppermint and chlorophyll. In adition, ginger and fruits, pear, citrus fruit and lemon. Just a hint of bitterness. The finish has a good length, 7 caudalies, with a frank and persistent liveliness.

The balance of this wine is fresh and airy. Its silky touch and range of aromas give it a great finesse.
